Heart to Heart: Meeting With God in the Lord's Prayer | Chapter ExcerptsFrom "Deliver Us From Evil"Lord, someone misunderstood me yesterday. And up it came: all my self-righteousness like a towering idol, arms folded, eyes glaring; all my pride like a crawling worm, pretending humility; and anger—oh, how willing I was to believe evil of them! And someone else praised me highly, and how I preened. How I looked down on others; how I measured my actions so that everyone would see and think me good when all my motives were only for myself; oh, Lord, deliver me! Deliver us from evil. Lord, yesterday I put my duty up against my desires, and my desires won. I risked the well-being of others so I could have the petty thing I wanted. Yesterday I said I loved someone, and then I dishonoured that someone with my actions because I was busy impressing someone else. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Lord, yesterday I read Your word with everyone else in mind. I preached instead of obeying. That wasn’t all: I could have been gentle, and I destroyed. I knew the Truth: I told a lie. I should have praised, instead I worried. Yesterday it came down to me or You; it came down to obey or rebel; it came down to self or others. Lord... I’m sorry. If I break my heart, will it make things better? Deliver us from evil! Read More Chapter Excerpts: Heart to Heart: Meeting with God in the Lord's Prayer Available now from Little Dozen Press |
